How often should a business post on social media? A simple weekly plan

Most small businesses start social media with enthusiasm, post every day for two weeks, then go quiet for three months. Consistency beats intensity. Here's a simple plan built for busy owners.

Choose one main platform

You don't need to be everywhere. For most local businesses, Instagram is the strongest starting point, with your Google Business Profile updated alongside it. B2B services may get more from LinkedIn. Pick where your customers already spend time and do it well.

Post three times a week, using four content types

Rotate between these, and you'll never run out of ideas:

  1. Show the work. Before-and-afters, finished projects, products in use, dishes coming out of the kitchen. This is your proof.
  2. Show the people. Your team, your process, behind the scenes. People buy from people they feel they know.
  3. Answer a question. Every question a customer has ever asked you is a post. "How long does a kitchen renovation take?" "Which skincare is right for oily skin?"
  4. Make an offer. A clear reason to act now: a seasonal deal, limited slots, a free consultation. Keep this to about one post in four so your feed doesn't feel like an advert.

Lean on short video

Reels and short videos tend to reach more new people than static posts. They don't need to be polished. A phone, natural light and a clear first second are enough. Show something interesting immediately, keep it short, and add captions because many people watch without sound.

Batch your content

Set aside one session a week, or even one afternoon a month, to plan and shoot. Take more photos and clips than you need. Write captions in one sitting. Then schedule everything with Meta Business Suite or a similar tool, so posting happens without you.

Talk back

Social media is a conversation. Reply to comments and messages quickly, ideally the same day. Every DM is a potential customer. Set up quick replies for common questions like prices, location and timings.

Measure the right things

Likes feel good, but they don't pay rent. Each month, look at:

  • Messages and enquiries that came from social media
  • Profile visits and link clicks
  • Which posts brought the most saves and shares

Do more of what brings enquiries, and less of what doesn't.

Make it easy to buy

Put your WhatsApp number, booking link or website in your bio. Pin your best posts. Use highlights for prices, reviews and FAQs. Every step you remove between "I like this" and "I want this" turns more followers into customers.

Three good posts a week, every week, will beat a burst of daily posting followed by silence. Start small, stay consistent, and build from there.
